AMAZON RAINFOREST
Ecuador's rainforest is located in the heart of the World's largest tropical rainforest, the Amazon Basin, a unique ecosystem. A short flight or a descent by road on the flanks of the Andes leads modern explorers and adventurers along the same routes that the first Spanish conquerors ventured through in their search of the land of Goldand Cinnamon... and found the mighty Amazon River.
ANDES HIGHLANDS
The two Andean cordilleras that run parallel and cross Ecuador from north to south, offer a most varied topography: volcanoes and snow capped mountains, green valleys with impressive Colonial cities like Quito and Cuenca, quaint Indian villages, farmlands, haciendas, lakes and rivers of crystal blue waters.
GALAPAGOS ISLANDS
The Galápagos Islands have been named after the giant Galápagos tortoises. The archipelago, 1000 Km. (600 miles) off Ecuador's Pacific Coast originated from undersea volcanic activity, six million years ago. The archipelago's 13 major islands, 6 smaller ones, and scores of islets are all part of Ecuador's National Park system. The world's most wondrous group of islands is yours for unhurried exploration.
Follow the nature trails; enjoy the amazing sights, wade and even dive among the animals of land and sea.
PACIFIC COAST
Ecuador’s Pacific coast lies between the foot of the Western Cordillera of the Andes to the Pacific Ocean, ranging from 20 to 180 Km. (12.5 to 112.5 miles) in width. Jungle, mangrove forests, quaint fishing villages, and stunning beaches run the length of the more than 2,000 Kilometer expanse of Ecuadorian coast.
