Today Ciudad Mitad del Mundo is one of Ecuador's principal touristic and cultural centers, with thousands and thousands anual visitors, located 15 kilometers ( nine miles ) northwest of Quito, at 2.483 meters above sea level. Mitad del Mundo enjoys the spring like climate typical of the Ecuadorian Andes, with an average temperature of 18º C. ( 68º F )

This is the Middle of the World in Ecuador, a tourist, cultural, scientific and commercial center located at Latitude: 0º- 0'- 0'', Greenwich Occidental Longitude: 78º- 27'- 28".

In the Pavilion of Spain, there is an exhibition of colonial and contemporary art, and archeological objects, which belongs to the Guayasamín´s Foundation.

The French Geodesic Museum is an exposition which exhibits pictures, maps and replicas of instruments that the Geodesic Mission used in the XVIII century to measure the Earth. In a model of part of an inter Andean Region gives you an idea where the scientists measure the quarter of an earth meridian. In another display, you can observe satellite photographs that show different points of the Earth.

Nearby there is a Solar Culture Museum, where we learn that the French were actually not the first to determine the precise location of the Equator. Thirty-five hundred years ago, the ancient people of the Andes used this area to make precise astronomical observations as well.

Children and adults can enjoy riding a train going from one hemisphere to the other in seconds, visiting the eight hectare complex and admiring the ecological landscape and projects that surround the equator monument.
